About the Author: Dr. Alfred Jay Bollet has been a lifelong student of all aspects of the Civil War, and has studied the medical history of the war intensively for over a dozen years. Born in New York City and a graduate of New York University, he spent his professional career in academic medicine, serving as a professor of internal medicine at the University of Virginia, the Medical College of Georgia and State Univ. of New York at Brooklyn. (He was chairman of the Department of Medicine at the latter two institutions.)

 

 

 

 

Recently, he has been Clinical Professor of Medicine at Yale. Dr. Bollet has published numerous papers and presented lectures on various aspects of Civil War medicine at many medical schools, Civil War roundtables, and the Smithsonian Institution. He serves on the Honorary Board of Advisors of the Museum of Civil War Medicine in Frederick, MD, and is on the Board of Directors of the Society of Civil War Surgeons.
